US spy aircraft kills 3 in NW Pakistan

Islamabad, April 29, IRNA -- A US spy aircraft fired missiles on a house in Pakistan's north Waziristan tribal region and killed at least three people on Sunday, tribesmen in the region said

The drone targeted a house in Miranshah, headquarters of North Waziristan, a tribal elder told IRNA on the phone.

Two other people were also injured in the strike, he said. The injured could not be shifted to hospital due to a curfew in the region by local authorities, he said.

There was no report about the identification of those killed and injured.

Locals said that the US aircraft fired two missiles on the building. They said that the building caught fire after the strike.

It was the second US drone strike in North Waziristan in a month. Four people were killed in a strike on March 30.

This is the first US attack after the Pakistani parliament this month called for an immediate halt to such strikes.

The US has rejected calls from Pakistan to stop drone strikes.

President Asif Ali Zardari reiterated the demand in his meeting with the US special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Marc Grossman in Islamabad few days ago.
