Pakistani security forces kill 6 militants in cross border attack

Islamabad, June 30, IRNA – Pakistani security forces have killed at least six militants in cross border attack in North Western Pakistan, local media report on Friday.

Militants from Afghanistan attacked the Karakar check post near the Lower Dir area. The attack was thwarted by security forces who in retaliation killed six militants.

This was the second attack by militants from Afghanistan in the area during this week. Eight militants were killed when they attacked the Rig Pam check post two days ago.

Pakistan insists that several top Pakistani Taliban leaders, including Fazalullah, Maulvi Faqir of Bajaur tribal region and Abdul Wali from Mohmand tribal agency -- have established bases in Afghanistan and regularly launch attacks on Pakistani border posts from there.

Pakistani Taliban in a major cross border attack in August last year had killed 25 security men in northern Chitral district.

Afghan government denied Islamabad’s assertions but a senior Pakistani official disclosed this month that the Afghan government has now admitted presence of Pakistani Taliban in remote Afghan areas
