New Delhi, May 4, IRNA --At least twenty one people were killed and hundreds injured Friday after being struck by lightning and severe storm in Odisha and Assam state

 

Fourteen people, including four women, were killed and ten others injured on Friay after being struck by lightning in different parts of Odisha, official sources said.

 

While five deaths were reported from Khurda district, four died in Balasore, three in Jajpur district and one each in Cuttack and Nayagarh districts.

 

Four died at Tangi and one at Haja in Khurda district. Five persons were also injured in the lightning incidents.

 

Three women were killed after being struck by lightning while working in a field at Kainagari village in Balasore district. Lightning claimed another victim as it killed a man at Uluda village in nearby Bhogarai area, PTI news agency quoted the sources as saying.

 

A report from Jajpur said lightning left three dead and five injured, two of them seriously, in three separate incidents in Sukinda and Danagadi areas of the district. Five others sustained burn injuries.

 

Similarly, one person died in Khajuripada in Cuttack district, while another was killed in Gochabari area of Nayagarh district.

 

Meanwhile, seven persons have died and several others suffered injuries as a severe storm struck different parts of Assam on Friday.

 

The storm whipped across lower Assam districts of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Darrang and Nalbari killing seven people and injuring nearly hundreds, damaging several houses and uprooting trees.

 

Six people, including three children, were killed in three different villages of Dhubri district when the tin roof of their house collapsed and fell on them.

 

A woman and her two and half year old child died at Baruapara village while a 70-year old and his two grand-children succumbed in Manipurgaon under Bilasipara police station.

 

Another man in Fakirganj area under South Salmara police station died in the storm, which also claimed the life of a man at Bhotgaon area under Kakiragram police station of Kokrajhar district.

 

Meanwhile, several people were injured in Barpeta, Darrang and Nalbari districts and properties worth several lakh of rupees got damaged in the storm.
