Gunmen kill six people in Pakistan’s SW

Islamabad, April 14, IRNA – Gunmen shot dead six people in Pakistan’s southwestern city of Quetta on Saturday in an apparent sectarian attack, police said.

 

The gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in Barori Road, a police officer said, Malik Arshad said.

 

The gunmen fled after the incident.

 

Witnesses said that the gunmen fired at a vehicle, injuring several people. The injured were transferred to a local hospital, where they died of wounds. Two people were injured.

 

Identity of those killed was not immediately known.

 

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

 

Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, has been under the grip of sectarian and target attacks in recent weeks. In many incident, Shiite Muslims have been targeted, according to police and Shiite groups.

 

The fresh incident occurred when Shiite Muslims called for protest against the wave of sectarian killings.

 

Governor of Balochistan, Nawab Zulfikar Ali Magsi, on Friday warned deployment of troops if the police and paramilitary forces were failed to stop the fast growing incidents of target attacks.

 

Ali Sher Haidry, spokesman for the banned extremist group, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Friday claimed responsibility for the recent attacks on Shiite Muslims in Quetta.
