Istanbul. Turkey.-The Syrian Coalition condemns the bombardment of the mausoleum of Khalid Bin Walid in Homs by Assad’s forces. The international community and UNESCO need to take all necessary measures to preserve the remaining humanitarian, religious, and cultural heritage in Syria. This more than ten thousand year old heritage site has now been destroyed by a tyrannical despot.

In a systematic strategy to change the demography of Homs, Assad’s militias shelled the mausoleum of Khalid Bin Walid as they launched a fierce offensive against other neighborhoods in Homs.

In a letter to UNESCO, the Syrian Coalition previously warned about Assad targeting ancient and historic buildings, mosques, churches, houses, castles, and other cultural, religious landmarks in an attempt to crush the Syrian Revolution.

The Syrian Coalition calls for immediate action to preserve the rich cultural and religious heritage in Syria.
