New Delhi, Sept 9, IRNA - Two people, including a security personnel of Central Reserve Police Force, were killed Saturday night as an explosion hit Guwahati, capital city of India’s Northeastern state of Assam, and a communal clash erupted in Assam's Dhubri town where indefinite curfew was clamped.
According to a pti report, a man injured in the blast died on the way to hospital, while nine others, including two CRPF personnel, were wounded.
In Dhubri town's Indira Gandhi Road area, a petrol bomb was hurled at a house and stones pelted on six other houses, police sources said.
The police fired in the air after two communities clashed leading to injuries to three persons, of whom one died, the sources said.
The district administration clamped indefinite curfew in the town, they added.
In July 2012, the India’s Northeastern state of Assam saw outbreaks of violence between indigenous Bodos and Bengali-speaking Muslims. 90 people died and tens of thousands of people were displaced from almost 400 villages.
Over the decades, Assam state has witnessed at least six major spell of riots between Bodos and Minorities. The first took place in 1996 and it caused loss of 50 people. This was repeated in 2008.
