Tehran, June 20, IRNA – Navy's Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi said on Wednesday that Iranian naval forces in a military operation foiled pirates' attempts to capture an Iranian cargo ship.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Iranian Navy, the Iranian cargo ship was attacked by eight speedboats manned by pirates and was almost captured but the timely intervention of Iranian naval forces forced the pirates to flee the scene empty handed.

Following the escape of pirates, the Iranian cargo ship continued its trip without any problem, Mousavi said.
