Islamabad, May 11, IRNA – A blast near a charity organization’s office injured one person in north western city of Peshawar on Friday, police said.
The blast took place on Islamabad-Peshawar Highway near an Edhi Centre office in Peshawar’s Chughalpura area. Two vehicles were also damaged in the blast.
According to police, Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Banaras Khan was the target of the attack who remained unhurt whereas his car was partially damaged.
The home-made bomb, using 2-3 kilograms of explosive material, was planted under a manhole cover on the road which detonated as soon as the DSP’s car passed by it, police sources added.
The blast site is near a bus stand which is frequently packed with commuters but no one was seriously injured in the attack.
Fear and panic gripped the area after the blast and emergency response teams reached the spot immediately.
Police cordoned off the areas as investigations began into the blast.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The government blames militants for such incident.
