Gorgan, Golestan prov, April 7, IRNA – A ceremony to commemorate the Turkmen poet Makhtumqoli Faraghi will be held here from May 17-18, said director general of the provincial Culture and Islamic Guidance Department.
Addressing a session to coordinate the ceremony, Gholamreza Montazeri said that foreign guests from different countries, especially from the neighboring state Turkmenistan, will take part in the two-day event.
The participating guests will also gather in the Iranian village of Aq-Tuqai, where the poet is buried as part of the programs to commemorate the Turkmen poet.
As the greatest Turkmen poet, Makhtumqoli (1733-1790) is considered to be the founder of authentic Turkmen literature by the people who speak Turkic language.
He has composed poems with religious, mystic and social themes in Turkmen language
