15 killed, 21 wounded in Baghdad bombing

IRNA – The latest reports from the Iraqi capital, Baghdad indicate that 15 people were killed and 21 other were wounded on Sunday after a bomb-laden car exploded in front of Baghdad police academy and near the Interior Ministry.

'We heard a big explosion and the windows of the room shattered,' said Haider Mohammed, 44, an employee in the nearby Police Sports Club. He described a horrific scene of burning cars, scattered pieces of burned flesh and wounded people flattened on the ground.

Iraqi security forces surrounded the area where bomb exploded and transferred the wounded people to hospitals in ambulances.

According to police, the bomber was waiting on the street outside the fortified police academy in an eastern neighborhood of Baghdad as a group of recruits were leaving the police academy. Police said the suicide bomber drove toward them and blew up his car. Five policemen were among the dead, the rest were recruits.

Iraq's police are generally considered as constant targets of attacks by the terrorists in the bombings and drive-by shootings almost every day.
