Islamabad, Jan. 5,IRNA – A British national working for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), was kidnapped by unidentified armed men in southwestern Pakistan on Thursday, police said.
Dr Khalil Asjid, working as health delegate, was kidnapped from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, police chief Faisal Mehmood said.
No group claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
Mehmood said that the law enforcement agencies blocked all the exit routes to frustrate any attempt to take the ICRC official out of the city.
He said the police and other security agencies are searching for Asjid but there is no clue. He said the gunmen can try to take the ICRC man to Chaman, the border town with Afghanistan.
He said the provincial government has provided security to foreign nationals but some foreigners have refused to take security men and have arranged own security.
An American national John Solecki was kidnapped in Quetta in 2009. The Baloch United Liberation Army had claimed responsibility for Solecki kidnapping who was freed after several months.
